South Carolina Highway Patrol Crash Data Reveals Fatal Accidents Are on the Rise

SOUTH CAROLINA - A news article published on postandcourier.com reports that fatal traffic accidents are starting to rise again in South Carolina. The number of deadly accidents in the state dropped last year during the coronavirus pandemic stay-at-home orders. According to crash data from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, there have been over 460 fatal collisions in the first half of 2021, as compared to 430 fatal accidents during the first half of 2020. In those accidents, more than 500 people were tragically killed this year compared with 486 in 2020. 

South Carolina Home to Several of Nation's Deadliest Roadways

Horry County Has the Highest Number of Traffic Accident Deaths in South Carolina

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. - According to a news report published on WPDE.com, Horry County has the greatest number of traffic accident-related deaths in South Carolina.  The report indicates that in 2019 there were 738 people who tragically lost their lives on South Carolina roads. Sixty-one of those fatalities are from crashes that occurred in Horry County.  This is substantial, showing that more than 8% of South Carolina's traffic deaths occurred in Horry County in 2019.

The incident occurred when an eastbound tractor-trailer crossed over the centerline in the roadway and slid into the westbound lanes. Motorcyclist Fatalities on the Rise in South Carolina
