Five People Injured in Vehicle Wreck on I-40 in Garner, North Carolina

GARNER, NC. – According to a news report posted online at wral.com, five people were injured in a vehicle wreck that happened on Interstate 40 in Garner, North Carolina. Few details about the accident were released in the news report, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating.*

The collision occurred during the overnight hours, close to Exit 309 and U.S. Highway 70 on the eastbound side of I-40. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and WRAL report that around 1 a.m., a car was traveling west on the interstate and ended up crossing through the median and entering eastbound traffic. Once in the eastbound lanes, the car somehow collided with two other vehicles. No vehicle descriptions were included in the news report. 

Investigators did not provide immediate information about the cause of the crash. It is unclear why the driver of the first vehicle left the westbound lanes and crossed over to the other side of the interstate. No information about factors potentially playing a role in the accident was included in the news report. 

WRAL reports that five people were injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their injuries were described as non-life threatening. None of the injured people was identified, nor was anyone else who might have been involved in the accident. The report did not say how many people were in the three vehicles in total. 

The crash caused all of I-40 to close down for about two hours while crews worked at the scene. North Carolina State Highway Patrol Troopers responded to the scene and will be handling the investigation. They indicated that charges were pending their findings.
