Two Men Hit by Tractor-Trailer on U.S. 52 in Forsyth County, North Carolina

October 01, 2019

FORSYTH COUNTY, NC. – According to a news story published online at wxii12.com, two men were hit by a tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 52 in Forsyth County, North Carolina. One of the men was tragically killed in the accident, according to the news report, and the other man sustained serious injuries.*

The accident occurred during the evening on the northbound side of the highway, close to the exit to Westinghouse Road and Rural Hall. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and WXII report that around 7:30 p.m., a vehicle was towing a trailer while traveling north on U.S. 52. At some point, one or more items fell off the trailer and onto the highway. It is not clear what was on the trailer or what fell off the trailer. The report did not say whether the men were working at the time or were hauling a trailer for personal use.

The two men inside the vehicle reportedly stopped and attempted to retrieve the lost item or items, and an oncoming tractor-trailer ran into them. The make and model of the towing vehicle and the tractor-trailer were not reported. It is unclear where the men were when the accident happened — if they were inside of a lane of travel or were on the side of the road.

WXII reports that one of the men tragically died in the collision. The report identified him as a 78-year-old resident of King, North Carolina. WXII further reports that the second man was injured in the accident and transported to a nearby hospital by emergency responders. He was identified as a 63-year-old resident of King. His injuries were said to be critical.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not identified in the news report, and the article did not say if he or she was injured. Investigation is ongoing.
