Teenager Tragically Dies After Hit by Car on Eastway Dr. in Charlotte, North Carolina

October 01, 2019

CHARLOTTE, NC. – According to an online news report posted at newsmaven.io, a teenager tragically died after being hit by a car on Eastway Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina. The accident is still under investigation, but authorities reportedly do not suspect that speeding or driver impairment contributed to the crash.*

The accident happened in the afternoon at the intersection of E. Sugar Creek Road and Eastway Drive in Charlotte. Authorities and News Maven report that around 1 p.m., a teenage pedestrian was walking across the intersection and was somehow struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was described as a 2015 Acura. The model of the Acura was not reported.

It is not yet clear what caused the accident to occur. The report does not say what direction the Acura was traveling or in what direction the pedestrian was crossing the roadway. The news report indicates that the Acura driver had a green light, and the pedestrian was inside a marked crosswalk.

The accident took place inside of a stretch of the road that is marked as a school zone, which requires drivers to travel at 25 mph or slower. Authorities did not immediately say how fast the Acura was traveling, though authorities reportedly do not believe at this time that speeding was a factor in the collision. They also do not have any evidence that the driver of the Acura was impaired, according to the report.

News Maven reports that the pedestrian was transported to Atrium Health Carolina Main Center with critical injuries, and he tragically died two days later. He was identified as a 16-year-old student at Garinger High School.

The driver of the Acura was not identified, and it is unclear if he or she was injured. Authorities are still investigating and have not said whether charges will be pursued.
