Massive 20-Vehicle Collision Shuts Down I-95 in Saint Paula, North Carolina
Saint Pauls, N.C. – Wral.com reports that a collision in the northbound lanes of Interstate 95. In total, 20 vehicles were involved in the crash. I-95 was shut down in Robeson County while rescue workers responded and cleared the scene.*
The State Police stated that the collision took place at about 8:30 in the morning and involved 17 passenger vehicles along with three big rig trucks. The accident may have been the result of reduced visibility which occurred because of a brush fire on nearby private property and fog. Officials indicated that at the time of the crash, visibility on the roadway was less than one car length.
While injuries were reported, and several people were transported to local hospitals, the authorities stated that there were no fatalities. The interstate reopened by about noon on Saturday.
