Cyclist Fatally Struck by Vehicle on Main St. in High Point, North Carolina

HIGH POINT, NC. – According to a news report published online at myfox8.com, a cyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle on South Main Street in High Point, North Carolina. The victim has not yet been identified, and the report indicates that charges are not anticipated against the driver of the vehicle, though the collision remains under investigation.*

The accident happened in the late afternoon, by Furnitureland on Main, which is located in the 2200 block of South Main Street. The High Point Police Department and Fox 8 report that around 4:15 p.m., a person on a bicycle traveled out of a business parking lot and onto the roadway. It is unclear if the business lot belonged to Furnitureland or another business. 

Officers say that the cyclist rode into the path of oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle. Factors potentially involved in the accident were not reported. The make and model of the vehicle were not provided in the report, and it is not clear what direction the vehicle had been traveling at the time of the accident. It is also not clear in what direction the cyclist was headed. 

Fox 8 reports that the bicyclist tragically died from her injuries. She was identified only as a female; No other identifying information about the victim had been released at the time of the news report.

The driver of the vehicle was not identified in the news report. It is unclear how many people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and whether anyone in the vehicle was injured. 

The High Point Police Department is still investigating the accident, but the news report indicated that officers did not expect charges to be filed against the vehicle driver. No further information about the collision was reported by Fox 8.
