North Carolina Woman Charged for Fatal Virginia Motorcycle Crash

EMPORIA, VA. – According to a news report posted online at, a woman from North Carolina is facing criminal charges following a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred in Emporia, Virginia. Investigation into the accident is still ongoing, according to the report, and authorities suspect that alcohol might have played a role.* 

The accident took place in the overnight hours on Interstate 95 in Emporia. Virginia State Police and CBS 17 report that at about 2:15 a.m., a 2014 Toyota Camry was traveling south on I-95. Near Exit 1 on the interstate, the driver of the Toyota reportedly lost control of the vehicle and ended up running off the road. The Toyota crashed into a guardrail and then rotated back onto the southbound lanes of the interstate.

In spinning back onto the road, the Toyota crossed into the path of a southbound 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle. The two vehicles ended up colliding. It is not yet clear what events led to the loss of control or the resulting crash. However, the report says that based on preliminary investigation of the accident, police believe that alcohol might have been involved.

CBS 17 reports that the motorcyclist was thrown from the bike during the impact with the Toyota, and he tragically died at the scene. He has not been identified at this time. It does not appear that anyone was riding on the motorcycle with him. 

The driver of the Toyota was identified in the news report as a 33-year-old woman from Raleigh, North Carolina. It is not clear if she was alone in her vehicle or if she was injured. CBS 17 reports that she has been charged with reckless driving. Authorities are still reviewing the case, and it is not clear if those charges will be amended at the close of the investigation.
