Former Guilford County sheriff’s deputy saves woman’s life after wrong-way crash on I-85

GUILFORD COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA - A news report posted on myfox8.com states that a former Guilford County Sheriff’s Office deputy is saved a woman’s life following a severe car accident on Interstate 85 in Guilford County, North Carolina.*

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that a 59-year-old woman was driving south along I-85 when she performed a U-turn at the I-85 Business split and then started heading northbound in the southbound traffic lanes.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that the woman then collided with the passenger side of a Freightliner 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck and then struck a Volkswagen.  The collision shut down three interstate traffic lanes.  

One witness stated that he saw the impact from the other side of I-85, while he was dropping his son off at day care.  The witness stated that he saw the victim make the U-turn that caused the crash.  The witness stated that he rushed to check on the woman and found her unconscious.  He then started CPR on the woman.

The witness revived the woman and he remained by her side until another motorist, a nurse, stopped to render aid.  The witness remained with the victim until first responders arrived at the accident scene.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol stated that the woman and the other motorist suffered non-life-threatening injuries and they were transported to Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol stated that the accident is currently under investigation and no criminal charges were filed at this time.
