Riegelwood Man Tragically Killed in a Head-on Collision with Logging Truck in Columbus County
RIEGELWOOD, NC - A news story published on wect.com reports that a Riegelwood man was tragically killed when his van crashed with a logging truck in Columbus County last Monday afternoon.*
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 63-year-old van driver from Riegelwood was heading westbound along NC Highway 87 by Narrow Gap Road when the vehicle departed its lane and into oncoming traffic. The van then collided head-on into a log truck.
The van's driver tragically died at the accident scene, while the logging truck driver was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for emergency medical treatment. Their medical condition is unknown at this time. There were no other injuries in the crash.
The accident created a substantial traffic backup along NC Highway 87 as crews worked to clear the accident scene.
