Two Hospitalized Following a Log Truck Accident in Perquimans County, North Carolina (NC)

PERQUIMANS COUNTY, NC - A news report published on wavy.com states that Perquimans County first responders state that two people were hospitalized following an accident between a log truck and sedan close to the intersection of NC 37 Highway and Ocean Highway South.* 

The Perquimans County Emergency Communications Center states that they received a phone call concerning a two-vehicle accident at around 8:45 p.m. Emergency first responders arrived at the accident scene and discovered that a log truck and car suffered extensive damage.

One car occupant was removed from the sedan without the need for extrication, but the second occupant needed to be extricated from the vehicle. One accident victim was airlifted by the East Care Air Ambulance from the accident scene and transported to the Vidant Medical Center. The other injury victim was transported by ground ambulance to Vidant Chowan Hospital.

The northbound lane of Ocean Highway was shut down for about two hours, and all traffic was diverted around the accident.

The southbound traffic lanes were also shut down temporarily, so the air ambulance could land at the scene and transport one of the injured.

The agencies that responded to the accident scene include the Bethel Fire Department, Perquimans County Sheriff’s Office, Hertford Fire Department, Hertford Police Department, NC State Highway Patrol, Perquimans County EMS, Nightingale Air Ambulance, which was canceled en route, and the East Care Air Ambulance. 

This serious motor vehicle crash is currently under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
