Fatal Wrong-way Tractor-trailer Accident on NC 49 in Randolph County, Nort Carolina (NC)

RANDOLPH COUNTY, NC - According to an accident news article myfox8.com, a man was traveling in the wrong direction along N.C. 49 in Randolph County, North Carolina.*

The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that the wrong-way driver collided with a tractor-trailer truck.  The fatal head-on collision occurred at approximately 10:37 p.m. and occurred on N.C. 49 by Old N.C. 49.

North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers stated that the wrong-way driver, a 33-year-old man from Ramseur, was heading northbound in the south-only lanes of N.C. 49 in his Volkswagen.  At that moment, a Freightliner tractor-trailer driven by a man from Greensboro, North Carolina, was traveling south along on N.C. 49.  The two-vehicle crash into each other head-on.  

The accident's impact forced the Volkswagen to swerve off the road and into the highway's median, while the 18-wheeler truck crashed into a ditch on the right side of the highway. 

No criminal charges have been filed as the North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated the collision.
