Accident Shuts Down I-40 Westbound I-40 Near Clayton Bypass in Clayton, North Carolina (N.C.)

According to an online news report published on cbs17.com, a severe motor vehicle accident occurred on I-40 westbound by the Clayton Bypass in Clayton, North Carolina.*

Traffic was delayed for about one hour as emergency crews worked the scene of the accident. The North Carolina Department of Transportation stated that the collision happened at approximately 3:50 p.m. All westbound lanes along I-40 were closed down as well as one I-40 eastbound lane by the U.S. 70. exit.

Law enforcement was able to open one lane to traffic at 5 o'clock in the evening. The remained of the accident debris was removed, and the roadway was opened at 5:45 p.m. The 

The North Carolina Department of Transportation did not provide any additional information about the accident. No names of the casualties involved in the accident were released.  Law enforcement did not state whether or not criminal charges were filed.
