December 04, 2020

According to an online news report published on, the Nash County Sheriff's Office reported that one of their deputy sheriffs was killed in an accident this past Tuesday.*

The 26-year-old deputy tragically died from his personal injuries he received in a Thanksgiving evening accident in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.  The fatal accident occurred near May Drive and U.S. 301.  According to Sheriff Keith Stone, the deputy was "ejected through the passenger side door."  The Sheriff was unable to state with certainty if the victim was wearing a seat belt or if the seatbelt broke.

Sheriff Keith Stone stated that the deputy finished a traffic stop and he was about to enter traffic to respond to a call regarding a motorcyclist alleged driving in a "careless and reckless manner" while heading southbound on U.S. 301.

The sheriff's office stated that the deputy was hospitalized in critical condition after his vehicle was collided with by another motor vehicle.  The deputy was transported to the Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.  The vehicle that struck the deputy was a white Nissan Maxima.  The Rocky Mount Police Department along with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol headed up the accident investigation.  Sheriff Keith Stone stated that traffic reconstruction teams are working the case and are piecing together what caused the accident.
