Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident at the Intersection of Old Dowd Road and Wilkinson Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina

According to an online accident news report, one person was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck in West Charlotte, North Carolina.*

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, police officers responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle crash close to the Old Dowd Road and Wilkinson Boulevard intersection.  Law enforcement officers arrived at approximately 12:15 a.m.  As law enforcement officers arrived at the scene of the fatal accident, the officers discovered a seriously damaged Land Rover Discovery and a 2019 International tractor-trailer truck.  

The preliminary accident investigation indicated that the Land Rover's driver was speeding upon entering Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.  The news report states that the Land Rover's driver was driving at a very high rate of speed and moving eastbound along Wilkinson Boulevard.  As the driver of the Land Rover crested the top of the hill close by the intersection, the Land Rover struck an 18-wheeler that was attempting to pull a U-turn.  The Land Rover traveled crashed and slid underneath the 18-wheeler's trailer. 

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, following the impact, the Land Rover's driver was ejected from the sports utility vehicle.  The driver of the Land Rover was later pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.  The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police also stated that the tractor-trailer truck driver was uninjured in the collision.  The victim was a 37-year-old woman.  The accident investigators state that there was evidence that points to the victim not wearing a seatbelt.  The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department stated that they are conducting a chemical test to determine if the victim was driving impaired or not.  The tractor-trailer truck driver was screened for intoxication and the driver was not found to be driving while impaired.
