Crash with Truck Ejects Three Children on NC 24 in Kenansville, North Carolina (NC)

November 11, 2020

KENANSVILLE, NC- Cbs17.com writes that a collision severely injured three children and their mother in Kenansville this week.*

The incident took place at the intersection of NC 24 and NC 50 in the mid-morning. Based on images from the scene, the collision involved a grey sedan and a large tractor-trailer. The sedan sustained serious damage to its front and driver side. Damage could also be seen on the rear of the passenger side of the truck cab. The impact caused all three of the children to be ejected from the vehicle and trapped the mother inside the car. Fortunately, none of the victims suffered injuries that are considered life-threatening.

Reports state that the driver of the truck received a citation for driving through a red traffic signal. No identifying information is available for any of the people involved in the crash.*

Red-light running drivers lead to many severe and often deadly collisions. Unfortunately, drivers violate red lights more often than many people realize. In fact, a recent study conducted by AAA found that red light running causes more than two fatalities daily in the United States. Red-light running collisions reached a ten year high in 2017.

Red-light running crashes often kill individuals in a car other than the vehicle that violated the traffic signal, pedestrians, and cyclists. In fact, only 35 percent of victims of red-light crashes are the driver who violated the traffic signal. Using red light cameras can help reduce the risk of these crashes. Of course, traffic signals only work when drivers are willing to follow the law and be cautious on the road. AAA recommends using caution in an intersection because you cannot control the behavior of other drivers. Always be prepared to stop as emergencies happen quickly in intersections.
