Crash Kills One on Interstate 40 in Durham, North Carolina (NC)
DURHAM, NC- Abc11.com writes that a crash took place this week on Interstate 40 that left one person dead. The crash involved a driver from Durham who was thrown from his vehicle in the collision.*
The incident happened close to the NC 751 in the early morning. The victim was in a car and traveling westbound when he collided with the back of a Ford F150 pickup truck. The aftermath of the crash led to lengthy delays on the interstate. Responders rushed the victim to the hospital, but shortly after his arrival, he passed away from his injuries. Reports indicate that the man was just 24-year-old at the time of his death. The man in the pickup truck also suffered injuries in the collision. Police suspect that speed was one of the factors that caused the wreck.
Speeding is one of the main causes of crashes in the United States. These incidents lead to thousands of fatalities every year. In 2018, 9,378 people died in wrecks that were the result of speeding. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration writes that speeding causes more than one out of every four collisions. While speeding above the posted limit is one common roadway risk, drivers can be putting themselves in danger even when they are driving at the speed limit. There are plenty of times where the speed limit is too fast for the road conditions. It is important to remember that the speed limit is really intended to be the maximum speed that drivers can travel on days when there are no circumstances that require extra caution. Rainfall, traffic conditions, and other circumstances may indicate that drivers need to slow down for their safety and the safety of others using the road.
