One Dead in Crash on Comfort Road in Richlands, North Carolina (NC)
RICHLANDS, NC- Jdnews.com writes that one person died in a collision this week on Comfort Road in Richlands. The crash also left the woman’s husband and a minor in another vehicle in critical condition. The incident occurred in the early afternoon when the young motorist who was traveling northbound crossed over the centerline, and then onto the shoulder of the road.*
A Kia Soul traveling in the opposite direction attempted to avoid the Nissan, but the two vehicles collided head-on. The wife of the 87-year-old man driving the Kia died at the scene of the crash. The drivers suffered severe injuries, and responders transported both to the hospital via airlift. Reports indicated that both were in critical condition.
According to the police, speed was one of the factors that led to the fatal injuries. The speed limit is 55 miles per hour at the location of the incident. The North Carolina Highway Patrol reports that the driver in the Nissan caused the deadly crash. No age has been reported for the younger driver. No charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
Speeding is one of the main causes of fatal crashes in the United States. For more than twenty years, speed has led to around one in three traffic deaths.
When a driver is traveling above the speed limit, he or she creates a number of serious risks. There is a greater chance that the motorist will lose control of the car. In the event of a crash, there is a more significant opportunity for the equipment in the vehicle to fail. The stopping distance is also longer for cars traveling at higher speeds, which means that drivers will have far less time to react in the event of an emergency.
