Rollover Wreck Injures One on New Hope Road in Raleigh, North Carolina (NC)
RALEIGH, NC- Cbs17.com writes that a crash involving two vehicles injured one person in Raleigh this week. The incident occurred on New Hope Road close to Capital Boulevard in the afternoon.*
One of the involved vehicles appears to have been speeding, leading to an impact that caused the SUV to roll over. One of those involved was transported to a local hospital.
Reports did not indicate the severity of the victim's injuries. Another person also reported injuries but was not transported to the hospital.
Traffic was slow on US 1 for several hours after the incident.
Images from the scene show an SUV on its roof in the roadway and debris from the impact along the side of the street.
Speeding is a major danger on the road and causes thousands of fatalities each year throughout the United States. In 2018 alone, 9,378 deaths were attributed to crashes that were caused by speeding motorists.
Speed is also an issue when it comes to rollover incidents. SUVs are more prone to rolling in a collision than are sedans. The majority of crashes in which rollovers occur take place on roads with fairly high-speed limits, and about 40 percent of deadly rollovers involve a speeding driver. Avoiding rollovers is important for safety, given the fact that these collisions carry a high risk of death.
While rollovers only take place in around three percent of all collisions, they account for about 30 percent of deaths. The numbers illustrate just how dangerous it is to be in a car that overturns. One of the best ways to reduce the risk of dying in a rollover is to buckle up.
