Large Truck Crash Injures One on Wolfe Road in Greensboro, North Carolina (NC)

GREENSBORO, NC- Myfox8.com writes that a man from Greensboro suffered injuries in a collision involving a large truck. The victim, identified as a 72-year-old man, was operating a 2011 Hyundai Azura eastbound, and a 2015 International truck drove into the road off of Alcott Road.*

Reports indicate that the victim could not stop to avoid striking the truck and impacted the front left side of the larger vehicle. Responders rushed the man to the Moses Cone hospital, where he is currently in critical condition. The driver of the truck, identified as a 67-year-old man from Greensboro, received a citation following the crash. Investigators do not believe that the man was under the influence at the time of the severe accident but stated that the investigation is not yet completed. Police are requesting that anyone with information regarding the incident contact Crime Stoppers. 

Crashes involving large trucks often result in the death of people who were in other vehicles. The massive size difference is at least part of the reason. Another issue is the fact that trucks are incapable of making rapid stops in the event of an emergency. In fact, the distance needed for a large truck to stop can be anywhere from twenty to 40 percent more than that which would be needed for a passenger vehicle. The difference may be even more extreme in cases where the truck is not well maintained or if the roads are slick from rain or ice. 

Truck drivers are another part of the problem. Regulations permit drivers to spend up to eleven hours behind the wheel at a time. Some truckers drive for even longer time periods leading to the potential for severe fatigue. Drivers who are fatigued can create additional dangers for everyone on the road.
