Motorcyclist Killed in Tragic Crash on Sunset Road in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC)

CHARLOTTE, NC- Wsoctv.com writes that a crash took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, that led to the death of a motorcyclist. The incident occurred in the afternoon close to the intersection with Milhaven Lane.*

Police reports indicate that a driver heading westbound in a truck collided with a car, and caused that vehicle to cross into the opposite moving traffic lanes. The victim was riding east and collided with the passenger side of the other vehicle. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from his bike. 

Responders rushed the man to the hospital, where he died from his injuries a short while later. People in the vehicle also suffered injuries in the collision and were transported to the hospital. 

The driver who was operating the truck was identified as a 26-year-old man. Police charged the driver with several criminal offenses, including misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and failure to reduce his speed. 

While the driver was not under the influence at the time, investigators believe that the man was speeding prior to the deadly wreck. 

The intersection remained closed while crews worked to investigate the tragic incident. 

Speeding leads to thousands of fatalities every year. In 2018, data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 9,378 people lost their lives in crashes caused by speeding motorists.
