Crash Injures Five on Jones Franklin Road in Raleigh, North Carolina (NC)
RALEIGH, NC- Wral.com writes that three vehicles were involved in a collision that left five people injured during the afternoon in Raleigh this week. The incident took place on Jones Franklin Road at Wood Aisle Road. One of the victims was a five-year-old child who reportedly was in serious condition. Responders rushed the child and four others to local hospitals.*
Reports indicate that one of the vehicles was in a left turn lane at the intersection when another car struck the first vehicle from behind. As a result of the impact, the first car was pushed into traffic, and another car struck the vehicle.
The driver who rear-ended the first car is now facing multiple charges related to the incident. The charges include failure to reduce speed, improper lane change, and driving without a license.
Forward Collision Warning Systems work to prevent crashes by alerting drivers when they are approaching another vehicle too quickly, or if they are getting too close to another car. These systems will not work to slow or stop the car on their own, but simply provide the operator with a warning that in many cases, works to get an inattentive driver's attention in time to stop a collision from occurring. This system is designed to prevent drivers from striking the back of a slower car, or a vehicle that has come to a stop.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that people in the market for a new car purchase one that has this technology as it has shown the ability to keep drivers and vehicle occupants safer.
Many new vehicles are equipped with this technology. Cars designed after 2010 often come with Forward Collision Warning technology.
