Hit-and-Run Drivers Kill One and Injure One on University City Boulevard in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC)

August 07, 2020

CHARLOTTE, NC- writes that two crashes left one pedestrian dead and another fighting for his life in Charlotte, North Carolina. The first collision occurred in the early morning on University City Boulevard. The victim, identified as a 37-year-old man, was located lying in the roadway. He was declared dead at the scene of the incident.*

Police say that the man was walking crossing the road and heading towards Interstate 85 when the car struck him.

Videos from the area indicate that the car was likely an Infinity G-35 or G-37 from either 2009, 2010, or 2011. Officers stated that the plate or tag for the car was in the rear window. Reports state that the car lost its lower front right bumper and that the windshield could be damaged as well.

Within minutes of the fatal crash, the police received word of another pedestrian injured in the road. The second victim was located on North Tryon Street. The victim was sitting in the road when officers arrived. The man had sustained severe life-threatening injuries in the crash, and responders rushed him to a nearby hospital.

The car involved in that incident was a Honda CR-V. The dark blue SUV sustained little damage in the crash. Officers located video footage from the area of the collision to identify that car.

No additional information regarding either of the incidents is available at this time.

Hit-and-runs are becoming more of a problem throughout the United States. The victims in these collisions are often pedestrians. Between 2009 and 2016, the number of people killed by fleeing motorists jumped by 60 percent.
