One Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Barr Road in Kannapolis, North Carolina (NC)

KANNAPOLIS, NC- Counton2.com writes that a pedestrian died this week in a tragic crash in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The incident took place in the early morning on Barr Road. The victim was identified as a 26-year-old man who was attempting to cross the road when the driver struck him.*

The motorist is now facing charges for her role in the crash. The 22-year-old woman was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when she struck the man. 

Police are still carrying out the investigation.

Drunk drivers increase the chances of crashes occurring on the road. These motorists present risks to everyone, including other vehicle occupants and pedestrians. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the risk of a deadly crash rises if a motorist has a blood alcohol content of just .05 percent. In most parts of the country, the legal limit for driving is a BAC of .08 percent alcohol per volume. Certainly, the risk of crashes rises more rapidly at .08 percent, but the studies indicate that states may be able to reduce drunk driving crashes by lowering the legal limit. So far, only Utah has made such a move and reduced its legal limit to .05 percent. 

In reality, a person who is about 150 pounds will, on average, drink four alcoholic beverages in an hour to reach a BAC of .08. That is not a small amount of alcohol, and the impact of so many drinks in that amount of time is significant. 

Some people also pointed out that most drivers have no concept of when they would reach a legal limit for alcohol, and that the best move it to simply choose not to drive after consuming any alcoholic drinks.
