Fatal Crash Reported on Interstate 74 in Forsyth County, North Carolina (NC)
FORSYTH COUNTY, NC- Wxii12.com writes that a crash occurred this week in Forsyth County that left one person dead. The incident took place on Interstate 74 in the eastbound lanes in the evening. The wreck led to lane closures in the area of the collision.*
North Carolina is no stranger to fatal wrecks. The state is among the worst in the country when it comes to locations with the most deadly car crashes.
In one study, the number of fatalities in the state was only surpassed by Georgia, Florida, California, and Texas. North Carolina was, therefore, the fifth deadliest state for vehicle collisions.
At least part of the reason for North Carolina’s poor performance is Charlotte. The city recently experienced a rise in crash deaths while also seeing the number of wrecks decline.
Two issues that are causing the uptick in deadly crashes include occupants failing to buckle up, and drivers speeding. Alcohol also continues to present many dangers on the roadway and accounts for a large number of fatal incidents in North Carolina.
Not only are the numbers of occupant deaths rising in Charlotte, but the city also experienced an increase in deadly pedestrian and cyclist accidents. Victims traveling on foot or by bicycle are only involved in three percent of collisions in the city, and yet they led to almost half of all those killed.
Vision Zero initiatives are now in effect as a way to attempt to reduce the number of such deaths in the state. Vision Zero programs are safety initiatives that use a combination of efforts that are intended to eventually eliminate all traffic deaths.
