Two Hospitalized Following Highway 13 Crash in North Carolina

WAYNE COUNTY, NC- The goldsborodailynews.com writes that a two-vehicle wreck occurred in Wayne County, North Carolina, this week. The incident took place on Highway 13 south at its intersection with Providence Church Road.*

One of the involved vehicles was a Ford Mustang that was blocking one of the traffic lanes when officers arrived on the scene. The other vehicle was located on the shoulder of the roadway. The people involved in the wreck were all checked out by the emergency medical services, and two were transported to the hospital. The victims' injuries were considered non-life-threatening. Reports indicate that the crash took place when a pickup truck driving on Providence Church Road entered the intersection in front of the Mustang. Police are still investigating the crash. The images from the scene show severe damage to the front of the Mustang. The pickup truck appears to have damage on its driver's side. 

Intersections are dangerous because cars that are traveling in every direction will meet at these locations. Of course, in many situations, drivers have other factors to consider as well because pedestrians and other road users may be attempting to cross the road. There are many opportunities for a mistake to occur. When some motorists fail to follow traffic signals or signs, the risks are much higher. 

Statistics indicate that about 40 percent of all crashes occur at intersections as well as more than twenty percent of deadly collisions. 

Some studies suggest that many of these crashes could be prevented by alternative infrastructure designs. According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts are safer than intersections. In fact, research shows that roundabouts are not only safer but also more efficient than the traditional intersection design.
