Tragic Crash Involving Motorcycle and Car Kills One in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC)
CHARLOTTE, NC- Wbtv.com writes that a woman is facing charges following a deadly crash in Charlotte. The incident, which occurred in the late morning, involved a motorcycle and a passenger car. The victim, identified as a 60-year-old man, was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle on South Boulevard at the time of the wreck.*
Police reports indicate that while the victim was heading northbound, a driver in a Nissan Altima traveling southbound tried to turn into a parking lot on her left. The Nissan entered the motorcycle’s path, and the two vehicles collided. The Harley Davidson struck the Nissan’s passenger side. The victim was then ejected from the bike. Police stated that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and other protective gear at the time of the collision.
Officers believe that the cause of the incident was a failure to yield the right-of-way. Responders arrived on the scene and rushed the motorcyclist to Atrium-Health-Main, but he was declared dead at the facility. Police charged the woman operating the Altima for failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The driver remained at the scene of the collision, as did a passenger who was in the vehicle with her at the time of the wreck. Detectives are still investigating the tragic accident and are requesting that any witnesses or individuals with information about the crash contact the department or Crime Stoppers.
Riding a motorcycle can be dangerous, and one of the most common causes of motorcycle crashes is when a driver turns left in front of an oncoming motorcycle. These are often caused by drivers simply failing to notice the motorcycle because of their smaller size.
