Tragic Crash in Winston-Salem Kills One in Winston-Salem, North Car0lina (NC)

May 05, 2020

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- Myfox8.com writes that a crash that occurred in Winston-Salem this week left one person dead and sent two others to the hospital with injuries. The incident took place on North Liberty Street in the early afternoon.*

Reports indicate that a 2004 Jeep Laredo was traveling northbound at the time of the crash. A 53-year-old man from Winston-Salem was operating the Jeep at the time. A 2015 Honda Pilot was traveling in the opposite direction with a 27-year-old woman from Lexington operating that vehicle. The Jeep drifted into the southbound lanes of traffic where it collided with the Honda head-on. The impact killed a 35-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Honda at the time of the wreck. The drivers in both of the vehicles were transported to the hospital. Neither of those individuals’ injuries is considered life-threatening. The investigation into the crash is still underway. Police stated that the victim’s next of kin had been notified of the tragic death. The collision closed down the roadway while crews worked at the scene.

Police requested that anyone who witnessed the incident or who has information regarding the crash contact the Winston-Salem department or Crime Stoppers.

One of the main factors that will determine whether people are likely to survive a head-on collision is the speed at which the vehicles are traveling at the time of the impact. Safety experts state that drivers should be traveling under 43 miles per hour if they want to lower their risks of being a victim of a head-on crash. At 43 miles an hour, the risk of a head-on collision leading to fatalities is high.
