Deadly Crash Reported on N.C. Highway 24 in Jacksonville, North Carolina (NC)

May 05, 2020

JACKSONVILLE, NC- Wnct.com writes that a deadly car crash took place in Jacksonville, North Carolina, this week. The incident occurred on N.C. Highway 24 in the late morning. Reports indicate that a 1998 Ford Expedition that was being operated by a 24-year-old man from Richlands was traveling eastbound. The Ford was in the left lane on the stretch of the highway between Holcomb Boulevard and Midway Park. The driver drifted from his lane and entered the median.*

A City of Jacksonville lawn-mowing tractor was in the median at the time, and the two vehicles collided. The Expedition traveled further to the east and rolled over before stopping on the west side of the road.  The driver of the Ford and the man on the tractor both suffered severe injuries in the collision.

Responders transported the two men to the Naval Center Camp Lejeune. The 32-year-old man from Richlands who was operating the tractor survived the crash, but the man driving the Expedition died shortly after the wreck.

Police stated that the investigation into the collision is still underway, and requested that anyone with information about the incident contact the authorities.

Studies indicate that North Carolina has one of the worst records for tragic car accidents in the nation. The only states that have worse records, according to the study, are Georgia, Florida, Texas, and California. In 2017, more than 1,400 people lost their lives in collisions throughout the state. Around one out of every three of these incidents involved alcohol. Many of these collisions also involve speeding motorists, and reports indicate that many people are still failing to use seatbelts in the state. North Carolina also experienced a rise in the number of deadly pedestrian incidents.
