Police Investigate a Crash on Interstate 16 in Pooler, Georgia

April 06, 2020

POOLER, GA- Wsav.com writes that a crash occurred on Interstate 16 this week that led to lengthy delays in traffic. The incident occurred close to the Interstate 95 ramp.*

Police reports indicate that the crash happened in the early afternoon and led to the westbound lanes of the interstate being blocked.Early reports suggest that at least two vehicles were involved in the collision, but the cause of the wreck is not yet known. There is no information available regarding the identity of the parties involved or any injuries that were sustained in the crash. Police asked that anyone who saw the crash contact the Pooler Police Department. The officers stated that they are looking for a newer silver F-150 in connection to the collision. The department reported that they were hoping to find someone who saw the direction of the vehicle, or who could provide license plate information or more details about the vehicle.

Traffic crashes declined in Georgia for two years in a row, indicating that efforts to make the roads safer in the state are potentially paying off. In 2018, 1,504 people still died in traffic collisions in the state, meaning that Georgia has a lot more work to do in order to prevent these wrecks. Officials in the state see the 2.3 percent drop in traffic deaths as a positive indication that the hands-free law is helping to keep people safer. Unfortunately, the number of pedestrian deaths rose in 2018, and over the last five years, the number of fatal pedestrian crashes went up by a disturbing 60 percent.

Distractions may also be driving the rise in deadly pedestrian accidents in the state. Officials say it is important for everyone to focus more on the road and less on their phones.
