Two Teens From Georgia Die in Tragic Crash in Rutherford County, North Carolina
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, NC- Ajc.com writes that a family lost two teenage boys in a horrible crash in North Carolina. The two victims were both seventeen-years-old and were triplets along with one of their sisters. The family was traveling on US 221 in Rutherford County in the evening this week when they were involved in a three-vehicle collision.*
As traffic slowed, the van rear-ended another vehicle, and a Dodge Ram 1500 then struck the van causing the truck and the van to catch fire. The parents were in the front of the vehicle while the victim’s two sisters were seated in the second row. Both of the boys were in the back of the van. One of the teens was declared dead at the site of the crash while the other died a short while later in the hospital.
The other members of the family were injured in the crash but survived. No information is available about the other people who were involved in the wreck. The victims and one of their sisters were in their junior year at the Oglethorpe High School. The district’s superintendent spoke out about the family, saying that the boys were wonderful kids.A GoFundMe page is raising funds for the family to help cover the cost of medical care and funeral expenses. The victims’ family lives near Winterville, and their father works for the University of Georgia.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, 80 percent of rear-end collisions could be prevented if all vehicles were equipped with collision avoidance technology. These crashes kill about 1,700 people every year.
