Tragic Cary County Crash Kills One, Injures Two
CARY, NC- Wral.com writes that a crash occurred in Cary this week that left one person dead and two others with serious injuries. The collision occurred on Green Level Church Road in the late evening.*
The three people involved in the incident were all transported to the Duke University Hospital. One of the victims later died. The roadway remained closed while responders worked to investigate the incident. Reports state that the cause of the wreck is not yet known.
Deadly car crashes are more common in North Carolina than in most other parts of the United States. The state ranks fifth in the country, and about one-third of those wrecks involve a drunk driver. Charlotte is a contributing factor, where crash deaths continue to rise. Two of the leading causes of deadly incidents in the city include distracted drivers and speeding.
Pedestrian crashes are also on the rise in the state and causing additional tragedies.
The city is trying to prevent the numbers from climbing further and has begun to implement a Vision Zero initiative. Under Vision Zero, cities aim to not only lower but to completely eliminate traffic fatalities.
Vision Zero does not involve one single solution but requires efforts in traffic law enforcement, education, and infrastructure improvements. Some cities have had success in lowering the number of deadly accidents that occur each year. With tens of thousands of people dying in car crashes in America annually, a lot of work is needed to make the roads safer for everyone.
