Police Believe Speed Contributed to Tragic Head-On Wreck in Caswell County, North Carolina

CASWELL COUNTY, NC- Wxii12.com writes that a crash took place in Caswell County and cost the lives of two individuals. The incident occurred on North Carolina Highway 86 close to Old North Carolina Highway 86 in the late morning. The crash happened when a twenty-year-old man in a 2015 Nissan was driving northbound and lost control of his car. The vehicle passed across the centerline of the road and collided head-on with a truck.*

The driver and a female passenger in the Nissan both died in the wreck. The driver in the semi-truck did not suffer any injuries in the collision. Police believe that speed contributed to the cause of the crash.

About 25 percent of all traffic deaths are at least partially the result of a driver violating the speed limit. Speeding makes it more likely that a driver will lose control over their vehicles, reduces the protective effects of safety features in a car, increases the time needed to stop in an emergency, and causes resulting collisions to be more severe.

Drivers who speed often do so because they feel that they are running late and begin to panic and feel pressure to make up for the lost time. In reality, few minutes are saved by violating the speed limit, and far too much risk is involved to justify taking the chance.
