Crash in Clayton, North Carolina Tragically Kills One

February 10, 2020

CLAYTON, NC- Wral.com writes that a car crash in Clayton killed one person and injured another individual earlier this week. The incident took place when two vehicles struck one another on NC 42 in the evening. A 30-year-old man from Kenly died in the wreck.*

Reports indicate that a westbound vehicle was passing another car on the road and collided with an eastbound vehicle. The driver traveling in the correct direction was killed in the impact. The driver who was passing the other vehicle is a man from Clayton. Police stated that the driver who caused the collision suffered severe injuries, including broken bones and damage to his spine. Responders transported the man to a nearby hospital for treatment. The surviving driver is now facing charges for unsafe passing and death by vehicle. The road remained closed for several hours while emergency workers cleared the scene. The images from the crash site show a sedan with severe front-end damage, and another vehicle badly mangled off the side of the two-lane road.

Rural roads are statistically more dangerous than urban roadways. The reason that roads in remote areas see more fatal accidents has to do largely with the fact that the speed limits are higher on those roads than in more heavily populated areas. Speed is a major factor when it comes to fatal crashes. The faster cars are traveling, the greater the odds are of a collision resulting in severe injuries and death. In the case of head-on collisions, the speed need not even be particularly high for the results to be deadly. These crashes involve extreme forces that cause significant damage to the occupants in vehicles.
