Reports Indicate That Charlotte and Raleigh Are Dangerous For Motorists

February 11, 2020

NORTH CAROLINA- Drivers in the United States are at a heightened risk of being involved in a crash in Charlotte and Raleigh North Carolina, despite a decrease in crashes in those cities, according to CHARLOTTEOBSERVER.COM.*

Charlotte had 21,818 collisions in 2019, making it the second most dangerous city in the country for drivers. Raleigh landed in sixth place with 12,846 traffic accidents. The positive news from the Go Safe Labs study is that while both cities have far too many accidents, they each had fewer than they did in 2018. The study indicated that the total number of wrecks dropped by more than thirteen percent in Charlotte, and by 25.5 percent in Raleigh. The results are not in line with some other recent reports which found both North Carolina cities to be driver-friendly. However, those studies looked into other factors, including gas prices, commute times, and insurance expenses, while the Go Safe Labs study looked into overall accident totals and intersections with the highest crash totals.

Nationally, the worst city for auto crashes was Houston with 22,188 collisions that occurred place last year. While Charlotte and Raleigh saw a lower numbers of collisions, the overall rate of accidents throughout the United States increased by about 6.8 percent between 2018 and 2019. Other recent studies have also indicated that North Carolina’s roads may be risky for motorists. One report found that in reference to driving-related fatalities, the state comes in fifth in the country. The only states with deadlier roads were Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas.  Distracted driving, speeding, and alcohol are all contributing to the problem. North Carolina also has lower than average rates of seatbelt usage.
