Motorcycle Crash Kills One in Raleigh, North Carolina

February 10, 2020

RALEIGH, NC- Cbs17.com writes that a motorcycle crash took place in Raleigh over the weekend. The incident occurred in the afternoon close to the intersection of Poplar Creek and Moore’s Creek Drive. Images from the scene show a motorcycle on Poole Road.*

Police have not confirmed whether the motorcyclist was the one killed in the crash or stated whether any other vehicles were involved in the wreck. The road remained shut down for around three hours but reopened to traffic in the evening. Police stated that the cause of the incident is still under investigation.

Motorcyclists are at a much higher risk of being involved in a deadly wreck than are people in passenger cars. Not only do motorcycles offer less protection to riders than four-wheeled cars, but they are also more challenging to operate. It is extremely important for riders to understand how to operate their motorcycles fully. The balance and skill required are significant.

In addition to receiving proper training and experience, motorcyclists are advised to use proper safety gear. Riders should always use a helmet that has been approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Many fatal motorcycle wrecks involve head injuries, and a helmet can lower the risk of brain injuries and death.

Even a skilled motorcyclist must contend with other drivers on the road. In order to increase the likelihood of motorists seeing a person on a motorcycle, reflective gear and bright clothing are recommended. Drivers often fail to overlook motorcycles, which can lead to tragic results when a much larger vehicle cuts off a smaller motorcycle. Motorists must learn to share the road with motorcyclists, but motorcyclists can take steps to maintain their own safety.
