Four Severely Injured on US 64 in North Carolina
BURKE COUNTY, NC- Morganton.com writes that four individuals sustained serious injuries in a crash that took place on US 64 in North Carolina. The incident took place late last week in the evening.*
Reports indicate that a driver operating a red pickup truck in the southbound lanes veered across the center of the road and into the northbound lanes. The red truck collided with a northbound white pickup truck head-on. Responders transported one of the drivers to the hospital via airlift. The driver in the white truck was trapped inside the vehicle after the crash, and the vehicle caught fire. The driver of the other vehicle and two passengers who had been in the white truck were also transported to nearby hospitals with injuries. The conditions of the victims are not currently known. One of the first responders on the scene said bystanders helped to extricate the driver in the white pickup truck from the vehicle. One of the bystanders was a nurse, and the Good Samaritans managed to pull the man from the truck.
The fire spread quickly and was frightening for those who were trying to save the individual’s life. One man described hearing the popping sound in the car and worrying that he too might get burned by the spreading flames. The driver, identified as a man, was conscious at the time, and the witnesses said that he was yelling and trying to escape the vehicle. Reports did not state what caused the driver in the southbound lanes to cross into oncoming traffic or whether any citations were issued in response to the wreck.
