Tragic Head-On Collision in Lexington, North Carolina Kills One

February 05, 2020

LEXINGTON, NC- Myfox8.com writes that a driver was killed in a head-on collision in Lexington, North Carolina, earlier this week. The incident occurred when the 45-year-old victim drove her 2004 Lexus across the center line in the roadway and struck an SUV head-on. The crash took place on North Carolina 8 near State Road 2277. The woman in the Lexus died at the scene. The driver operating the SUV suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital. Police are still working to understand the reason the driver drifted across the centerline. *

Head-on collisions can occur when a driver takes his or her eyes off the road for even just a moment. Speeding around a curve can also lead to one of these extremely dangerous wrecks. In some instances, a driver may veer over the center line because he or she was traveling too fast around a curve in the road.

When two vehicles collide head-on, the consequences are often fatal. In a high impact accident, the forces will damage a person’s body from the inside, even if their seatbelt and airbag prevent them from striking something hard inside the vehicle. These crashes can be divided into an impact between the vehicles, an impact between the person and something in the vehicle, including the airbag, seatbelt or the steering wheel, and an impact inside the victim’s body. A person’s internal organs will crash into their bones, and cars cause internal injuries that may prove fatal.

Because of the risk of internal injuries in these collisions, it is difficult for a carmaker to safeguard vehicle occupants. In high-speed accidents, there is only so much protection a car can provide.
