Driver Dies in Tragic Chesterfield Crash

January 31, 2020

CHESTERFIELD, NC- Wrinc.com writes that a man died in an accident early this week. The early evening wreck involved a pickup truck.*

The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle. Responders rushed the victim to the hospital, but he died a short while after the crash. Police have not yet released the individual’s name.

Single-vehicle collisions often involve a car that rolls over. Rollover wrecks are more common in tall vehicles such as pickup trucks or SUVs than in  sedans. These incidents occur when drivers lose control over their automobiles, especially when rounding a sharp curve. Sometimes a vehicle may also flip because it trips on a curb or other object.

Rollovers are some of the deadliest crashes on the road. Many people killed in these accidents die because they are ejected from their vehicles. Ejections are more often fatal than not, and anyone who survives being thrown from a car is lucky to have done so. Seatbelts can help prevent ejections.

Fortunately, newer vehicles are less likely to rollover. Even SUVs, which have long been known for their tendency to flip over, are designed in ways to reduce that risk. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the number of people killed in single-vehicle rollover collisions has dropped significantly since 1978, and SUVs have seen the greatest reduction. Still, in 2016, 7,488 people died in rollovers. In more than one-quarter of those crashes, no other impact was involved. Drivers who wish to avoid such crashes should slow down. Speeding is a factor in about one out of every three fatal crashes.
