Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested in Laurinburg, North Carolina

December 08, 2019

LAURINBURG, NC- The laurinburgexchange.com writes that a hit-and-run crash took place two weeks ago on Highway 74 Business. The victim was identified as a 51-year-old woman from Laurinburg. The woman was walking to work early in the morning before sunrise when the accident occurred.*

Reports indicate that when the victim did not show up for work, co-workers went to look for her and saw her hat on the roadside. They then discovered her body in a ditch on the side of the roadway. The woman often walked to work and was wearing reflective gear at the time of the crash.

At the scene, officers found a mirror from the vehicle that struck the woman. Police tracked the suspect down using forensic evidence and information that an anonymous person provided.

Police arrested the suspect and charged him with a felony hit-and-run, for driving without a license, and for other driving-related infractions.

Drivers who flee the scene after a pedestrian accident may be leaving the person without any assistance. A person who could potentially survive with medical care may be left helpless and dying because the driver who hit that person chose to flee rather than render aid. Not only is it illegal to leave the scene of a crash, but it is also a behavior that is considered so morally reprehensible that many people struggle to understand how someone could decide to commit such an act. Unfortunately, many of these drivers manage to flee undetected and are never caught. Based on the data that is available, AAA found that many of these individuals flee because they are drunk, on drugs, or do not have a license.
