Three Vehicle Crash Under Investigation in Caswell County, North Carolina
CASWELL COUNTY, NC- Caswellmessenger.com writes that a three-vehicle accident took place late last week outside of Yanceyville. The crash happened when a GMC Yukon and a Ford Escape were driving southbound on U.S. 86 when they slowed because of a turning vehicle. A Mitsubishi behind the other vehicles struck the Escape causing that vehicle to hit the Yukon and cause the Escape to end up on top of the Mitsubishi. *
The authorities shut down the roadway while they cleared the scene of the crash. Rear-end collisions are an extremely common type of crash. In most cases, their accidents result from a driver failing to pay attention to the road ahead of them. Distracted drivers may fail to see a light turn red, causing cars to slow or heavy traffic ahead on the roadway. Other causes of these accidents include drivers who follow vehicles too closely and drivers who travel at high rates of speed. In either of these cases, a driver may not have time to stop in an emergency.
Rear-end accidents are often minor, but they do kill around 1,700 people every year. The number of rear-end accidents that take place every year is unacceptable and preventable. Of course, safe driving practices would avoid most of these incidents. But given the fact that we cannot seem to prevent people from distracted driving, drowsy driving, or drunk driving, the best way to prevent these collisions might be crash avoidance technology. Cars that alert drivers when they approach traffic too quickly, or who apply the brakes in an emergency could prevent many rear-end collisions.
