Teen and Best Friend Seriously Injured in ATV Accident in Holden Beach, North Carolina
HOLDEN BEACH, NC – According to an online news report at wect.com, a teenager who lost his limb in an ATV accident is recovering in the hospital.*
It was supposed to be a perfect day to ride an ATV. A teen, aged nineteen, and his best friend, a male, wanted to ride his new ATV which had just been purchased from the shop. What happened next was a life-changing experience for both individuals.
The teen indicates that he and his friend were trying to go across Holden Bead Road Southwest but were struck by a vehicle, the impact of which almost killed them both. They were taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital for treatment. The nineteen-year-old has no memory of the crash,
“I don’t remember how I ended up, I just woke up in the ICU and I had tubes down my throat. I was confused, that’s how it all started,” said the teen.
The teen woke up in the hospital to find that part of his left leg was amputated in order to prevent him from living the rest of his life in constant pain. His father consented to the procedure as the teen laid unconscious in the hospital.
“Never would’ve imagined I’d lose my limb,” stated the teen. The teen’s friend, who has not been identified in the report, is currently in critical condition at the hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the teen was thrown twenty feet from his ATV following the impact and his friend traveled even farther.
Even though the teen was seriously injured, he still intends on riding his ATV again. “People may think just because of the four-wheeler wreck that I’m not going to hop back on one," said the teen. "But I definitely will because I love riding ATVs, dirt bikes, anything that goes fast.”
