Three-Vehicle Crash on I-74 in Robeson County, North Carolina, Tragically Kills Truck Driver

ROBESON COUNTY, NC. – According to a news article posted online at wpde.com, a three-vehicle crash that happened on Interstate 74 in Robeson County, North Carolina, tragically killed a truck driver. The events taking place prior to the crash are not completely clear, and North Carolina State Highway Patrol is still investigating.*

The accident took place in the evening on the westbound side of I-74. No exit number or mile marker was listed in the news article, so the specific location of the crash is not known. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and WPDE report that a tractor-trailer was sitting on the interstate after having been involved in a collision of some kind. The details of this collision were not reported. It is not clear if this was a single-vehicle wreck involving only this tractor-trailer. 

While the tractor-trailer was stationary, a westbound SUV ran into it. Shortly thereafter, a second tractor-trailer became involved in the accident, rear-ending the SUV. No make or model information was reported for any of the three vehicles. It is not clear what circumstances caused the accident. Troopers are still looking into the details of the wreck. 

WPDE reports that the driver of the second tractor-trailer tragically died due his injuries from the crash. Troopers identified the victim as a 66-year-old man from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. 

The driver of the first tractor-trailer and the driver of the SUV were not identified in the report, and it is unclear if either of these drivers was injured in the collision. No other injuries were listed in the news article. 

After the crash, the westbound side of I-74 was shut down and remained closed for almost nine hours. WPDE reports that the roadway was closed through the night and did not fully reopen until about 7 a.m. the following day.
