Alleged DWI Crash Tragically Kills One in Cumberland County, North Carolina

November 08, 2019

CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC. – According to a news report posted online at fayobserver.com, an alleged DWI vehicle crash tragically killed one person in Cumberland County, North Carolina. The Fayetteville Observer reports that one driver has been arrested and charged in connection with the accident.*

The collision took place in the late evening on North Carolina Highway 1828. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and The Fayetteville Observer report that at approximately 9 p.m., a vehicle was traveling south on the highway and somehow crossed over the centerline near James Dale Road. Troopers say that the vehicle then entered the path of traffic traveling in the opposite direction.

Once in the northbound lane, the vehicle crashed into a second vehicle head-on. The makes and models of the two vehicles were not reported, and they were not described in any way in the news report.

The Fayetteville Observer reports that the driver of the second vehicle was tragically killed in the accident. Officials identified the victim as a 65-year-old man from Godwin, North Carolina. It does not appear that any passengers were in the victim’s vehicle at the time of the accident.

It is unclear if the driver of the first vehicle was injured in the accident. The report identified him as a 46-year-old man from Cumberland County. The report did not say if he was the only person in his vehicle.

Though all the events contributing to the accident have not been reported, it appears that driver impairment might have played a role. According to The Fayetteville Observer, the driver of the first vehicle was arrested after the collision and has been charged with driving while impaired and felony death by vehicle. He was reportedly taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center with bail set at $150,000.
