Two Hospitalized Following Tractor-Trailer Accident in Randolph County, North Carolina

October 31, 2019

RANDOLPH COUNTY, NC – According to an online news report at myfox8.com, two individuals were sent to the hospital following an accident involving an 18-wheeler that occurred in Randolph County, North Carolina.*

An 18-wheeler headed northbound had a tire that blew out which caused it to cross lanes.  As a result, the truck hit into a PT Cruiser that was located in the opposite lane.  The driver and passenger of the PT Cruiser were both transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The North Carolina Department of Transportation indicates that the crash occurred in the late evening hours.  It does not appear that the injuries sustained by the victims were fatal.

Accidents involving trucks are much more dangerous than passenger vehicle crashes due to their size and weight. Specifically, trucks can weigh up to 80,000 pounds while the average passenger vehicle weighs about 4,000 pounds.  This means that when a passenger vehicle is involved in an accident with an 18-wheeler, the consequences can be deadly.

Each year, North Carolina sees over 200,000 automobile accidents each year where about 1,200 sustain fatal injuries.  Large trucking crashes account for approximately 10,000 accidents in North Carolina per year where 24,000 sustain injuries and 150 are killed.
