Traffic Delays on I-795 after Truck and Mower Collide in Black Creek, North Carolina
BLACK CREEK, NC- Wakeweekly.com writes that a crash between a pickup truck and a mower took place in the afternoon late last week. The accident occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 795. One man was reportedly injured in the crash.*
Reports indicate that both of the vehicles overturned in the accident and that the pickup truck caught on fire. The driver of the pickup truck was identified as a 41-year-old man. Police did not release information regarding the identity of the man operating the tractor mower but stated that he was taken to the Wilson Medical Center for injuries he suffered in the crash.
While the crash is still under investigation, the early reports indicate that the pickup truck hit the back of the mower. The car landed upside down in the left southbound lane, where it caught fire. The tractor mower ended up on its side in the right lane.
The driver of the pickup was able to exit the burning vehicle before the arrival of emergency workers.
Police closed the southbound lanes of I-795 in response to the crash. Firefighters were able to extinguish the burning vehicle in a matter of minutes.
One of the responding officers commented on the mower, saying that the type of vehicle is quite dangerous for the operator.
The worker who was driving the mower was working on contract work for the North Carolina Department of Transportation along the side of the interstate when he was hit.
Statistically, the Consumer Product Safety Commission states that riding mowers cause about 70 fatalities every year and 80,000 injuries. In many cases, children are injured by these devices.
