Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Accident on Monroe Rd. in Charlotte, North Carolina
CHARLOTTE, NC. – According to a news article posted online at wsoctv.com, a pedestrian was seriously injured in an accident that happened on Monroe Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. The driver suspected of being involved is accused of fleeing the scene and filing a false police report about the accident, according to WSOC.*
The collision took place in the evening at the intersection of Monroe Road and Timber Springs Drive in Charlotte. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and WSOC report that around 8 p.m., a pedestrian was trying to cross the roadway and was somehow struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was said to have been traveling northwest in the right lane. The make and model of the vehicle were not reported.
It is not clear what direction the pedestrian was walking at the time. The news story did not say whether the pedestrian was crossing in a crosswalk and did not indicate who might have had the right-of-way at the time of the accident. Following the crash, the driver of the vehicle left the scene.
WSOC states that the pedestrian was transported to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for emergency medical care. She was identified as a 35-year-old woman and was said to have sustained serious injuries. Her current medical condition has not been reported.
Not long after the collision, officers say that a 19-year-old woman contacted the police department to report that her car had been stolen and had been involved in the accident. At some point during their investigation of this report, officers developed a reason to believe the woman was not being truthful and had been driving the car herself when the pedestrian accident happened.
WSOC reports that the woman has been arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run and filing a false report.
