North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Struck By Car During Traffic Stop in Vance County, North Carolina

VANCE COUNTY, NC – According to an online news report at abc11.com, a man from Vance County is facing several charges after he struck a trooper from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol with his vehicle earlier this week.*

The suspect, a 32-year-old man, is being charged with felony hit-and-run, DWI with open container, as well as reckless driving endangerment, and failure to move over with serious injury, per the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.  

The trooper is currently in the hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries after he was hit by the suspect during a traffic stop on United States Highway 1 in Kittrell, North Carolina.  The trooper was hit on United States Highway 1 close to Sunrock Road in the nighttime hours. 

Based upon the police report, the trooper was located outside of his patrol car when a 2012 Buick hit him from behind.  Another trooper came to the scene of the accident and attempted to render aid to the injured trooper.  According to the commander of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, "[o]nce again, we are reminded of the dangers our brave men and women face each day while keeping our communities safe. While I am very thankful for the overwhelming amount of support already received, I encourage everyone to continually uplift Trooper Hundley and his family as he begins the recovery process."

Following the accident, the trooper was taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital for the treatment of severe injuries.  It appears, however, that he has a positive prognosis and is expected to be released from the hospital very soon where he can recover at home.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to the Vance County Jail.  He has a court appearance later this week.
