Pedestrian Dead in Deadly Crash with Drunk Driver in Bridgeport, North Carolina

BRIDGEPORT, NC- Ncadvertiser.com writes that a drunk driver tragically killed a pedestrian late last week in an early morning accident. The incident occurred on Barnum Avenue when the victim was attempting to cross the roadway from outside of the designated cross-walk. The victim was identified as a 39-year-old man.*

The 27-year-old female driver was operating a Volkswagen Passat. Reports indicate that the police found that the woman was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. She has since been charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle and for driving with insufficient insurance. 

While the charges did not include driving under the influence, reports indicate that second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle is typically a charge that is filed in cases when a driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident. 

Emergency personnel was called to the scene where they attempted life-saving procedures before rushing the victim to the hospital. The man later died as a result of blunt force injuries he suffered in the crash.

Police are still seeking any information about what caused the tragic incident.
