Drunk Driver Tragically Kills Construction Worker, Injures Three Others in Concord, North Carolina
CONCORD, NC- Wbtv.com writes that a tragic accident killed one and injured three others in the early morning hours over the weekend. The man who died and the three injured were working for Cruz Brother's Concrete on a road improvement project close to the Concord Mills Mall at the time of the wreck.*
According to the police, a 2013 Dodge Dart was driving east near Entry A for the mall when it struck the victims. Reports indicate that the work area was adequately marked and well-lit, with signs designating that the area is a work zone. The 21-year-old female driver hit the four workers who were within the work zone at the time of the accident.
The deceased victim was identified as a 50-year-old man from Graham, NC. He was declared dead at the site of the accident. The other three victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The police have confirmed that the driver had a blood-alcohol level that was above the legal limit.
The driver is now facing charges for felony death by motor vehicle. Traffic lanes were shut down while the scene was investigated. Officers are still looking into the cause of the crash.
According to locals, the area is quite busy and dangerous for those trying to navigate, especially on foot.
Unfortunately, many people are hurt or killed in construction zones. While these sites are often marked with signs and lighting and warnings to slow down, drivers frequently disregard the markings and travel too fast through work zones putting themselves, other drivers, and the workers in grave danger. When drivers enter work zones, they must slow down and stay alert because of the close proximity of people and construction vehicles.
