Fatal Accident on Farrington Rd. in Durham, North Carolina
DURHAM, NC. – According to a news article posted online at newsobserver.com, a single-vehicle crash in Durham, North Carolina, caused one fatality. The crash, which happened on Farrington Road, also injured a person, and authorities are still investigating the cause.*
The accident occurred during the early morning in the 6300 block of Farrington Road. The Durham Police Department and The News & Observer report that shortly before 5 a.m., a 2005 Honda Accord was traveling southbound on the roadway and somehow departed the right side of Farrington. It appeared to police officers that the driver of the Honda then overcorrected and re-entered the road.
The Honda then veered off the opposite side of the roadway and ended up crashing into a tree. The Honda was the only vehicle involved in the crash. It is not yet clear what caused the Honda to initially leave the road. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the crash, and investigators reportedly suspect that alcohol and speeding might have been involved in the incident. No other information about the cause of the collision has yet been reported.
The News & Observer reports that the driver of the Honda tragically died in the crash. She was identified as a 33-year-old woman from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. In addition, the news report states that a passenger in the Honda was injured and taken to an unnamed hospital nearby for treatment. She was identified as a 38-year-old woman from Chapel Hill. Her injuries are said to be serious.
The collision caused a portion of Farrington Road to be closed down for approximately four hours while crews worked at the scene. The police investigation into the crash is ongoing, and no additional information had been released at the time of the news report’s posting online.
